Building What I Love: Why I Started The Preserve
By Jeremy Hill, Founder of Hill Construction, Hayward Concrete, and The Preserve
I’ve been building things my whole life. Through Hill Construction and Hayward Concrete, I’ve had the privilege of shaping homes, roads, and projects all over the Hayward area. But The Preserve is something different. This project isn’t business as usual—it comes from the heart.
I grew up in the Wisconsin and have been in Hayward for over 20 years. The quiet of the pines, the glide of skis on groomed snow, the crunch of bike tires on a mountain bike trail, the drip of water off the end of a kayak paddle—that’s where I feel most at home. I’ve always believed that this place offers something you can’t find anywhere else: peace, grit, beauty, and space to breathe. And that’s exactly what I wanted to capture in The Preserve.
The Preserve sits just minutes from downtown Hayward and right alongside the trail systems that make this region such a magnet for silent sport lovers. Whether it’s skiing, fat biking, gravel riding, or trail running, this is where people come to move with purpose and recharge in nature. I wanted to create a community that honors that lifestyle—where folks can step out their back door and be on the trail in minutes.
That’s why each homesite in The Preserve is five acres. I didn’t want to cram houses together or clearcut the woods. I wanted to build something that felt like it belonged here. The main roads are now in and we’re ready to show it off. It’s the kind of place where you can build a legacy—a cabin for your family, a home base for your adventures, or even a place to finally slow down.
The Preserve is a reflection of everything I love: craftsmanship, community, and the Northwoods. I hope you’ll come see it for yourself.
